My Unique Learning Trifecta

A STEPS TO SUCCESS SYSTEM, that starts with what I call the
Learning Trifecta.

Learning Trifecta

Environment

The small group of children in a similar position, all wanting to achieve the same goal of improving their knowledge in the subject. This is where we aim to build a team of highly motivated students wanting to achieve their best. Student engagement is interactive and learner centred. Learner – Content, Learner – Learner and Learner – Tutor. Communication between, myself as the tutor, children and parents is key.

Habits

Teaching good habits, to develop the independent learner. Five to thrive; what five habits could your child develop to ensure that they have a good start to the day and therefore in a good position for learning?

Standards

High standards of deliverance.  Children often don’t get results because they are frustrated and don’t believe they are good at something, right? This is why I developed my unique Steps to Success System.

My Steps to Success System

Step 1 : IDENTIFY

Pre-assessment in Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar and  an independent written task. This will identify the gaps that need to be addressed.

Step 2 : CONCEPT

Teaching and learning of the concepts; through visual, kinaesthetic (doing), auditory (listening, songs and music) and reading/writing.

Step 3 : RETRIEVAL

Our short-term memory, forgets information at a considerably fast rate. We need to get the information into our long-term memory and a way to do this is through retrieval practise (I have done a webinar specifically on this, saved in the Learning Portal). Basically, this is in short the act of recalling learned information from memory (with no or little support) and every time that information is retrieved, or answer generated, it changes that original memory to make it stronger. Getting the information out, with a range of different fun activities.

Step 4: GOAL

This is active learning with independent application, giving children plenty of opportunity to apply their knowledge to a range of different tasks so that it happens naturally. Using the 'I do, we do, you do' approach.

Developing children to become more independent learners, by demonstrating structures to help with self-study, to prepare them for Secondary School and beyond.

For any children preparing for SATS in May, we will practice SATS questions, how to answer them and how to apply that knowledge in written tasks. For more information on SATS, check my webinar in the Learning Portal.

For those children preparing for 11+ tests, programmes are devised with a heavy focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar objectives. They are also tailored to build ambitious vocabulary and comprehension by exposing children to a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. Teaching children to develop their Creative Writing.
